Border Control Function is the component that enforces security at the edge of the ESInet, acting as the border firewall. It sits at the network boundary and applies security policies to traffic entering and leaving the ESInet, filtering connections and protecting internal PSAPs and services from unauthorized access or threats. The other components have different roles: the Emergency Service Routing Proxy handles routing emergency calls to the appropriate PSAPs, the Policy Routing Function applies routing decisions based on policies, and the GIS Database stores geographic data used for mapping and routing.
